A list of Skin Hacks for Acne and Other Issues
To kick off our blog, we thought it would be beneficial to compile a list of “tricks and tips” regarding facial care when it concerns acne, break outs, and other common issues that can arise. Truth be told, all of us have suffered with a blemish or dry skin on more than one occasion in our lives, and may or may not have known any skin hacks for acne or what to do about the issue. Here is a list of some life changes or implementations that can help protect and care for your skin.
- Dive in!!
If You have access to a pool, it could be beneficial to go for a swim to combat acne. The chlorine in pools tends to dry out skin—which is bad news for pimples, and good news for you!
- Steam Things up!
Steam can benefit your skin in efforts to be rid of acne because steam helps allow for your pores to open up and refrain from being clogged up. Steam can also act as a detoxification method for skin care.
- Cool as a Cucumber
Cucumbers can help by acting as an anti-inflammatory. Much like cucumbers are used within the salon community to lessen the puffiness in eyes, they can be used to combat the red irritation and puffiness that often accompanies acne or a blemish.
- Tea Tree Oil
Tea tree oil contains many anti-bacterial and anti fungal properties with are both very good for the skin. Tea tree oil has been compared by many dermatologists to the common acne treatment- benzoyl peroxide- although more holistic.
- Have a Routine
Its Essential that you find a good face washing regimen and stick to it. This might take a little bit of testing or trial and error to find the right line of products that work well with your specific skin type. We generally recommend staying away from products that have oil in them and use only oil free products when cleansing and toning your face.
- Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple cider vinegar helps to regulate the pH of skin and kill acne causing bacteria. Mix Apple cider vinegar and water in a 1:3 ratio and apply 2-3 times a day with a cotton swab.
- Aloe Vera Gel
Aloe vera is a good herbal remedy for acne and the scars caused by acne. Its anti-inflammatory and soothing properties heal the problem within a few days. Take an aloe vera leaf, cut it in the middle, and squeeze the gel. Apply it on the affected area two times a day.
- Avoid Processed or “fake foods”
As part of the process of treating acne from the inside out, it’s important eat foods that don’t cause blood sugar spikes that lead to the production of insulin. Focus on leafy green vegetables, berries and clean protein in order to combat acne and promote a healthier complection and overall wellness.
- Exfoliate Regularly
Clogged pores and dead skin contribute to acne. It’s very important to exfoliate properly to remove the buildup and rubbish from the surface of the skin. Commercially available scrubs are ridden with chemicals that can further irritate skin- so it may be beneficial to look up a DIY scrub or homemade remedy that would be better for your skin.
- Clean pillow cases and hands off!
Its important to regularly clean your pillow cases to ensure that you’re sleeping on a clean sheet. Also, make sure not to try and poke, pop, or pick at pimples. It will only make the situation worse.
